The South Australian Living Artists Festival, or SALA Festival, was established in 1998 to
promote and celebrate South Australian visual artists. Each year the Art Gallery of South Australia
stages an exhibition in support of the festival that showcases the work of South Australian
artists.
This year the recently refurbished Elder Wing provides the backdrop for the display. Works of art by contemporary South Australian artists are presented in dialogue with the Gallery’s collection and Australian art. These Australian art activations begin in the Vestibule with an installation by Hossein Valamanesh, the subject of the most recent SALA monograph published by Wakefield Press.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Hossein for his generosity in re-creating his work of art for this year’s festival. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Lisa Slade, our Project Curator, for her role in selecting and activating the works of art in the Elder Wing.
The Gallery is a proud supporter of the SALA Festival and South Australian contemporary art.
